www.scenedaily.com/news/articles/sprintcupseries/Scott_Riggs_to_replace_Casey_Mears_as_Sprint_Cup_driver_for_Keyed-Up_Motorsports. Riggs, who drives for RAB Racing in the Nationwide Series, has 175 career Cup starts for a variety of teams, including Evernham Motorsports and Haas CNC Racing. He will replace Mears, who is serving as a backup driver for Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin following Hamlin’s knee surgery, which is scheduled for Wednesday. “We are thrilled to have Scott in our car,” Key said. “Casey is a great guy and did a good job for us. Both parties fulfilled the six-race deal and parted on good terms. We have even discussed the possibility of having Casey back later this year.” The team has attempted to qualify for every Cup race this season and made the event at Bristol. The team is now using engines from Earnhardt Childress Racing Technologies. Sitting 43rd in the owner standings and 236 points outside the top 35, the No. 90 team needs solid runs not only in hopes of getting one of the 35 guaranteed starting positions on a week-to-week basis but also to avoid missing races when qualifying is rained out, as happened last week at Martinsville. “We now look to Scott for his input on how we can succeed in getting into the top 35 in points with him behind the wheel,” Key said.
